Carbon Nanotube-based Strain Gauges

The EU project external page DigiPredict proposes the first of its kind Digital Twin to identify and validate patient-specific dynamic digital fingerprints of complex diseases state and prediction of progression as a basis for assistive tools for medical doctors and patients.
To be able to make these predictions, it is necessary to generate and interpret high-quality measuring data. The contribution of the MNS group is to explore a eudermic ultra-low power and miniaturized CNT sensor for high sensitivity axial strain measurements to monitor specific characteristics of the respiration (e.g. respiration rate, lung volume). Suspended CNTs on flexible substrates shall be enabled to pick up the strain of a person's chest during respiratory activity by analyzing the change in the electrical transport characteristics of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) which are caused by straining the CNT.
