Carbon Nanotube Electromechanical Resonators
Single walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) resonators exhibit high eigenfrequencies, which are ultra sensitive to strain or mass changes. This sensitivity can be exploited for sensors and can be further improved by applying strain to such SWNT resonator.
This project investigates the tunability of eigenfrequencies and qualtity factors and slack removal by strain engineered SWNT structures using thermal actuation. The usage of SWNT resonators at the strain limit is expected to result in ultra sensitive practical sensors for nanoscale quantities.
