Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering

The Chair of Micro and Nanosystems, Prof. Christofer Hierold, participates in the following Bachelor Focus

  1. Micro and Nanosystems
  2. Mechatronics

151-0621-00L Microsystems I: Process Technology and Integration

Lecturers: Hierold, C. / Haluska, M.

Description: Students are introduced to the fundamentals of semiconductors, the basics of micromachining and silicon process technology and will learn about the fabrication of microsystems and -devices by a sequence of defined processing steps (process flow).

Course schedule and learning materials for HS 2024 will be available for the enrolled students in mystudies.

151-0643-00L Studies on Micro and Nanosystems

These topics are also offered as Studies on Mechatronics.

Tutors: Hierold, C.

Idea: Students are introduced to the basics of independent scientific research and are able to summarize and to present the results efficiently. The student works independently (with guidance from a tutor) on a study of selected topics in the field of Micro- and Nanosystems. They start with a selection of scientific papers to continue literature research or with design and fabrication of a demonstrator from one of our microsystems.

Rules: The results are summarized in a short report (<15 pages in English) and a poster (in English). At the end the student can present his poster (not mandatory) to the micro and nanosystems group. The student receives 5 Credit Points. (1 CP = 25 -30 h, there are 13 – 14 weeks per semester). Expected effort is 5 -10 hours per week during the semester (including report, poster preparation).

Research-plan: The student has to work out a research plan with his advisor (especially for literature research fixed meetings have to be scheduled). The goal of the work and schedule of project have to be discussed.

Kick-off meeting: 2 weeks after the start of the studies there is a kick-off meeting with Prof. Hierold. The student has to present their project and the working-plan will be discussed. The presentation date and report deadline have to be arranged in this meeting.
